When a recipient informs you that they have received a Winmail.dat file instead of a PDF, you can try the following steps to help the user correct the issue.
First if they are on an apple platform (iPhone, iPad or MacBook)
1.Go to the app store on the iPhone, iPad or MacBook and down load Winmail.dat Viewer - Letter Opener (Free version)
2.After installing Winmail.dat Viewer - Letter Opener go back to the email and select the Winmail.dat file and select open with Winmail.dat Viewer - Letter Opener and the email will be pulled into Winmail.dat Viewer - Letter Opener and they will see the PDF, now select the PDF and we are done.
If the user is on a PC running Windows.
1.They will need to download the file to the PC.
2.They will right click on the file and select properties.
3.They will now change the .dat to PDF and save the file and then they will be able to open the file as a PDF.
What can you do as the sender?
1.Delete the contact information in Outlook.
2.Send a PDF to then and type the email, then create a new contact information for them.
3.Send then the PDF and make sure that the email format is plain text.
